Requisits: Nivell mínim recomanat d’anglès de B2 (First Certificate). No es demanarà certificat B2 per la matriculació.  

Course Content:

This course is suitable for individuals with a minimum level of FCE (materials are of a mixed level) wishing to gain a basic knowledge of vocabulary relating to common areas of civil law. The course examines areas of English law, providing useful vocabulary for students day to day working life, as well as  giving thought to communicating with English speaking clients. This course also includes legal films, demonstrating law in practise.

Module 1 (21 hrs)

Sources of Law – Legislation – Common law

    Background to making new law,
    Early Development of law,
    Passing an act.

Contract Law

    Where does contract law come from?
    Reading a contract and a statute
    Formation of contract and Defences to contract formation,
    Understanding contracts,
    Understanding formal expressions, technical words, archaic terms
    Contract negotiation, general vocabulary needed and role play
    examination of contract clause,
    structure of a commercial contract.
    Language Focus
    Examination of case.
    TOLES Higher Foundation Exam practise

Tort Law –

    What is Tort.
    What is tortious liability.
    Main Tort vocabulary and relevance to business.
    Case study :- Palsgraf v The Long Island Railroad company. Understanding and     noting case information/case discussion.
    The most famous tort case.
    Tort in practise-Lawyer/client interview. Study of correspondence threatening legal action.
